Set on a seven-acre estate on the fringe of the village of Backbarrow at the southern tip of Lake Windermere, the Lakeland Village consists of ten hotel-based apartments and 37 cottages and apartments.
The original buildings, including an 18th century five-storey cotton mill, had been decaying for many years and were considered an eyesore of industry dereliction.
However, in 1981, local architect Mike Williams devised a project that re-vitalised the area resulting in the opening of the Lakeland Village to its first timeshare owners in 1984.
Today, there are 1,400 members and the resort includes the Whitewater Hotel and the Cascades Health Spa and Leisure Club.
The resort is affiliated to Interval International and has held their Premier Resort status since 1984. Owners can also make use of the exchange facilities of Dial An Exchange.
